Origin Story
The Blue Mussel started with just shells!
In 1962, owner Bea Sweet decided Naples was the perfect place to celebrate the wonder of the ocean and began providing tourists and locals alike with affordable and beautiful seashells.
In 1997, Bea sold the shop to Larry, a New England businessman and restauranteur. Larry had his own vision for the shop and soon The Blue Mussel was offering local art, jewelry, and collectible items from around the world.
In 2024, Larry retired and sold the shop to its current owners, Evan & Paige. Together, they decided to expand on the business further by adding an additional location in Delray Beach, FL in 2026.
What began as that small shop in Naples, is today a curated collection of old Florida charm in a busy modern world. Not mass-produced décor, but things that tell a story - gifts, home accents, and finds that remind us of the beach, the water, and the slower rhythm of coastal living.
From the beginning, the goal was never to build a big retail brand - just a place where you can discover something unexpected, find the perfect gift, or bring home a piece to make you feel a little closer to the ocean.
Naples → Delray
As more people discovered The Blue Mussel, the shop naturally grew.
Customers visiting from across Florida kept asking the same question:
"Do you have a location closer to us?"
That demand led to the opening of our second store in Delray Beach on the famed Atlantic Ave.
